Awards and such

Occasionally, I write blogs about a coming book or an historical character I’ve been bringing to life. I guess I’m always in the moment or in the future. I seldom take time to reflect upon the past.

As I was moving items from my old computer to my new computer, I was glancing through some old folders on my desktop, and I realized I usually don’t brag about milestones or awards.

Let’s change that!

oc awardMy very first book was Okatibbee Creek. It’s the story of a woman who survived the Civil War, though dozens around her perished, either through illness or war. In 2013, the story won the Bronze Medal in Literary Fiction at the eLit Book Awards. It also received Honorable Mention in Regional Literature at the Great Midwest Book Festival.

book-contest-semi-finalistAlso in 2013, my book Elly Hays received Honorable Mention in General Fiction at the Great Midwest Book Festival, and the cover (my design!) placed as a semi-finalist at Authors dB Book Cover Contest. In 2014, it was named as one of the 50 Indie Books Worth Reading at Indie Author Land.

Web-Seal-Hoffer-Award-FinalistOne of the best awards also came in 2014. My book An Orphan’s Heart was a finalist in the Eric Hoffer Awards! I was so happy about that one, even though the story didn’t go on to win the top prize.

stuckey_s BridgeThe best is yet to come. It’s not an award, but it’s definitely cool. My book The Legend of Stuckey’s Bridge will be featured on the Travel Channel in October on a show called America’s Most Terrifying Places. I’m super excited about that!!

witch dance cover smallOkay, back to the present.

I’m currently in final draft for my coming book Witch Dance. It will be available for pre-order August 1st, and the official release date is September 15th. Sometime between now and then, I’ll get organized with a Blog Tour and a Facebook Release Party. More details as I get them together.

Thanks for indulging me in this nostalgic journey. I guess it’s good to step out of the present and look back with gratitude at how awesome life really is.

If you’d like to check out any of those books, click on Lori’s Books at the top of this page to find out more or pop over to Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or iBooks. Okatibbee Creek is also available on audiobook at Audible.

*************

Lori Crane is a bestselling author of historical fiction and the occasional thriller. Her books have climbed to the Kindle Top 100 lists many times, including “Elly Hays” which debuted at #1 in Native American stories. She has also enjoyed a place among her peers in the Top 100 historical fiction authors on Amazon, climbing to #23. She resides in greater Nashville and is a professional musician by night – an indie author by day.

The Versatile Blogger Award

theversatilebloggerI’m just tickled pink to receive this award from my dear author friend Anna Belfrage. Anna is one of the most versatile people I know. She writes amazing books with intriguing fictional characters, yet her feet are firmly planted in a career based in solid numbers. She keeps her feet on the ground and her head in the clouds. She’s a wife and mother, and she speaks numerous languages. Click on her name to hop over to her site for her unique view of history and pick up one of her books. You won’t be disappointed.

Now, on to the award. The Versatile Award contains five to-dos:

  1. Display the Award Certificate (copy and paste it from my post)
  2. Write a post and link back to the blogger who nominated you
  3. Post seven interesting things about yourself
  4. Nominate up to fifteen other bloggers (and why you’ve nominated them)
  5. Inform them of their nomination  (via a comment on their blog unless you have their email)

Ok, I think I’m on #3. Why did they have to put the word “interesting” in there? Ummm…

1. I live on a farm, work on a ship, and commute to work by plane.

2. I’m a prefectio..perfecion…perfectionist who uses spell check like it’s the Bible.

3. I love to cook gourmet meals, but don’t really care what we have for dinner.

4. I love numbers but am totally dyslexic when it comes to them.

5. I use Post-It notes so much, mine say “www.LoriCraneAuthor.com” on the top of them.

6. I’m a classically trained pianist and a professional musician, but I seldom play more than three-chord rock songs in my dueling piano show. It’s just pitiful.

the goose7. My favorite thing in the whole world is being at home. My home is quiet and serene, which is my refuge from my crazy career. Well, except for the geese…the geese are NEVER quiet.

My nominations for the Versatile Blogger Award are:

P. C. Zick – Patricia is so Versatile, she has numerous blogs. You can reach them all from the top of her author page.

Elle Knowles – Elle is very Versatile, posting everything from funny scenarios to sewing to writing.

Barbara Schmidt – Barbara’s blog is mostly about genealogy, and I’ve nominated her because she is Versatile enough to write blogs in English and in German. Who else do you know can do that?

My new favorite blog is by Gvon Kapherr. Just go read it. It’s amazing!

Musician James Radcliffe is a philosopher of the highest regard.

“Elly Hays” named semi-finalist!

book-contest-semi-finalistMy book “Elly Hays” was named semi-finalist in the 2014 Authorsdb Book Cover Contest! I love this cover best of all my books. It was designed by Elite Book Design and is awesome!!!

The distinction wasn’t for the book itself, only the cover, but check it out anyway. It’s a really, really good story if I do say so myself. It’s the story of my 5th great grandmother during the War of 1812. It has received 14 reviews on Amazon totaling 4.5 stars, and it generally sits in the Top 100 of Native American stories over there, and has for the last year since its release in October 2013.

elly cover_webBlurb

As the War of 1812 approached, the Creek Indian Nation was in the middle of a civil war. They fought brutally between themselves, as well as with the white settlers who were encroaching upon tribal land.

It was during this time Elly’s family moved to the eastern Mississippi Territory for the promise of low-cost land and fertile soil. She had no idea they were moving into Creek territory – into the middle of a hornet’s nest. Tafv’s band of warriors taunted them, stealing their property, killing their animals, and destroying their livelihood. Just when the family thought things couldn’t get any worse, during one of the Indian raids as Elly’s husband chased the Indians away from the farm, Tafv’s young son was killed in the pursuit. Tafv vowed revenge against Elly’s family, and a final showdown was imminent.
.
“Elly Hays” is based on the real-life story of Elizabeth Hays Rodgers and is the epic clash between a fearless warrior with nothing to lose and a young mother on the verge of losing everything.
